![]() Octagon Poker TableWhat makes octagonal poker tables so special? The tables you see in the casinos and card rooms are elliptical in shape, but that doesn't mean that shape is ideal for a home game. The reason for that is that in a casino there is a dealer, and he or she will be seated centrally along one side of the table which makes it easy to deal to all the players. In a home game however each player takes it in turn to deal, and if you're sat at the end of a long table dealing can be tricky. An octagon shaped table solves that issue however, since all the players are seated evenly around the table, and all of them can reach without having to stand up a stretch when it's their turn to deal. Round tables are the same, although octagonal tables make it easier to define where each player sites and stacks their chips. The octagon poker table isn't perfect though. In order for all the players to be seated evenly around the table and reach to deal, the table has to be kept rather small. That means games can feel a little cramped, expecially of you have a lot of chips on the table. It also means there probably won't be room on the table for drinks, so if you like to have drinks, and maybe even snacks, on the table during the game you might want to consider a larger table. Another downside to an octagonal table of course is that it tends to limit the game to 8 players. If you're likely to be having games with 9, 10 or even more players they squeezing everyone around an octagon shaped table will be a pain - you're probably better orf with a larger round table, or a full casinso style table. Of course if you don't have room for a full casino style poker table don't worry, you could always go for a fold up poker table or a poker table top which goes over the top of your dining table to give you a proper playiung surface! |
