Is a poker table top the best of both worlds?

If you're in the market for a new poker table you're probably torn between two choices - a small round or octagonal poker table which doesn't take up too much space, but will feel cramped with any more than just a few players, of a full scale casino style table which is big and expensive.

Well here's the good news - you don't have to compromise after all!

A poker table top gives you the look and feel of a full size casino style poker table, with the convenience of an octagonal table since after you're done playing it can be packed away. They tend to be considerably less expensive than a full casino style table, yet still incorporate all the features such as a proper rail, decent cloth, and possibly cup or chip holders.

Poker table tops are designed to be used on top of a regular dining room or kitchen table. Folding poker tables with legs are also available if you don't have a sturdy table to use, and even the full tables with folding legs tend to fold away quite small. My suggestion would be that if you already have a solid dining table, get yourself a fold up poker table top and save a little money. If however you don't have a good solid dining table invest a few dollars more and get a full fold up poker table.

One of the big advantages of a poker table top of course is that they are very portable. If you play in a regular home game between friends, several of you can buy a fold up table between you and easiy transport it to whichever house you're playing in that particular week. That makes for a massive saving over every player needing to buy their own table, when you'll only be playing on one at a time anyway.
